Online and offline crosswords

Sitting in the shade, doing some crosswords can be relaxing. And it can be frustrating, too, depending on the difficulty. What we have found can be both but it’s a kind of positive and motivating frustration when you bump into a word that you have never heard.

If you go to The Guardian’s website, there’s a hidden section not too many people know about. It’s the last item in the category that lists all the uncategorizable items.

So, if you want to do the clicking yourself: go to theguardian.com, click on the last item of the top menu (“more”) and select the bottom keyword: “crosswords”.

Or just click on the direct link at the bottom of this post.

What you find there is not less than 18,000 crossword puzzles !!!

WARNINGS:

– They are mostly for advanced learners of English;

– And some of the crossword puzzles will corner even them.

What’s surprisingly amazing about them is that The Guardian takes this section really seriously:

– You can do them online, right there and then;

– You can use various buttons: “check this”, “reveal this”, “reveal all” and “anagram helper”;

– You can switch to pdf version and download and print the selected puzzle.

To repeat the warnings:

– They are mostly for advanced learners of English;

– And some of the puzzles come without the HELP buttons listed above.

So, once you’re comfortable in the shade, remember this post…
