Make the most of what you watch

We found a technological novelty a few years ago that has proven to be a great tool for language learners since then. The magic letters were LLN: language learning with Netflix. And 3 years later LLY came out...

It won’t take more than 10 seconds to figure out what Y stands for if you assume that it’s another video platform. Language learning with Youtube is another application from the same developers that is designed to help language learners. More specifically, both applications are Google Chrome extensions, so they are designed for Netflix and Youtube users who watch their favourite shows and videos using the Chrome browser.

If you enable the app while watching Netflix or Youtube:

– you can set 2 active subtitles, so you can listen to the audio and follow the subtitles in the language you study, while also displaying the subtitles in your language below the first one;

– You can also adjust playback speed;

– You can listen to the subtitles line by line, which enables you to analyse it and compare it to the displayed translation;

– And there is a pop-up dictionary and the extension suggests the most important words for you to learn.

We would never recommend subscribing to any services that are as addictive as those two mentioned above. But for those who are already regular users, our weekly tip might come handy.
