There are roughly 6,500 spoken languages on this planet, so it’s quite a challenge to dive into each of them and come up with the top 1,000 words.

As a result of 7 years of research, the list on this website contains 108 languages at the moment. Based on my quick calculation it will take about 400 more years to get to the end of this list of 6,500 languages…

P.S.:

There are no official numbers regarding the minimum number of words to be fluent in a language, and fluency is not a question of how many words you have memorized. But there is a minimum number for the category “functional beginner”, that’s about 250-500 words.

For “Conversational” level, you need at least 1,000 words (2 or 3 thousand words make it much more comfortable for you). Native speakers know (but not necessarily use) 10,000 to about 65,000 words.
